Motor Vehicle Offenses -- Revised Minimum Mandatory Fines and Penalties Schedule

Published with this notice is a revised Minimum Mandatory Fines and Penalties Schedule for selected motor vehicle offenses. The schedule includes only those motor vehicle offenses that carry minimum fines and penalties or those that carry a specified range of fines and penalties. Motor vehicle offenses that carry only maximum penalties are not included. Please note that court costs are not included in the fine amounts. The revisions are current through November 19, 2001.

The schedule is being provided for the convenience of municipal court practitioners. This is the first revision of the schedule since 1998 and represents the work of the Conference of Presiding Judges–Municipal Courts, the Conference of Municipal Division Managers, and the Municipal Court Services Division of the Administrative Office of the Courts.

APPEALS

Appeals from the Municipal Courts are heard in the Superior Court, Law Division, as appeals de novo on the record. As a result, a Superior Court Judge rehears the case based on a review of the Municipal Court proceedings, with occasional oral arguments by pro se appellants or defense attorneys. This method of appeal has greatly reduced the time devoted to Municipal Court appeals, while continuing the high quality of justice the citizens of New Jersey have come to expect from their court system

How can I find out if I will receive motor vehicle points from my ticket?
You must contact click New Jersey Motor Vehicle Services for information regarding points.
