We try to cultivate public trust by holding ourselves to the highest standards of performance and ethics. We exist to serve all the people in this community with respect, fairness and compassion.

The Department is committed to the prevention of crime and the protection of life and property, the preservation of peace, order and safety, the enforcement of the laws of the City of East Orange, the State of New Jersey and the United States Of America, and the safeguarding of constitutional guarantees provided to its people.

Integrity

The public demands that the integrity of its law enforcement officers be above reproach. The dishonesty of just one officer may impair public confidence and cast suspicion upon the Department as a whole. Succumbing to even minor temptations can generate a malignancy which will ultimately destroy an individual's effectiveness and which may well contribute to the corruption of fellow officers. Officers must scrupulously avoid any conduct which might compromise their integrity or the integrity of those with whom they work. No officer should seek or accept any special consideration or privilege, nor anything of value for which others are expected to pay, solely because they are police officers, or for performing their duty in some manner inconsistent with the highest regard. We recognize the badge of our office as a symbol of public faith and accept it as a public trust to be held so long as we are true to the ethics of the police service. Our officers will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating themselves before God and to our chosen profession....Law Enforcement." Working Together for a Quality Community".....
by providing leadership through commitment, integrity, excellence, trust and mutual respect. In pursuit of this goal, we strive to achieve cost effective results which reflect the following values and beliefs:

Our Primary Value

Service
We Work With The Community. We listen, anticipate and respond to the needs of our community and its elected representatives. We want to do things that serve the best interest of all the people in East Orange and we work to enhance their safety and security now and in the future.

Our Core Value
The East Orange Police request and preserve public support, not by catering to public opinion, but by constantly demonstrating unquestionably unbiased service to the law without regard to the justice or injustice of the substance of individual laws. By readily offering individual service and alliance to all citizens of East Orange without regard to their race or community standing. By giving absolute exercise of courtesy, sociable respectable humor and by readily offering individual sacrifice in protecting and preserving life.

The East Orange Police should use physical force to the degree necessary to secure adherence of the law or to restore order when the exercise of persuasion, advice, and warning is found to be inadequate to achieve police objectives and police should use only the reasonable amount of physical force which is necessary on any specific occasion for achieving a police objective. The test of police efficiency is the deficiency of crime and the presence of public order. The ability of the East Orange Police to perform their duties is reliant upon public approval of police existence, actions, behavior, and the ability of the police to secure and maintain public respect.

The mission of crime prevention cannot be accomplished by the East Orange Police alone. This task necessarily requires the unconditional cooperation of both the police and the public working together toward a common objective. In view of the fact that the police cannot be expected to be on every residential or business block, each hour of the day, a course of action must be developed whereby each person becomes impassioned with the welfare and safety of his neighborhood. When people are working with other people in their neighborhood, they can effectively decrease crime.

Our Individual Value
Individual Employees Are Our Most Important Resource. Our commitment is to pursue opportunities for individual achievement, personal growth and development, and recognition. We encourage expression of individual style and enjoyment of our work. We are honest in our communications and accountable for our actions.  We take pride in our chosen profession.
